The National Park Road

The National Park Road stretches from Dombås to Hjerkinn Fjellstue, and passes right by Dovregubbens Hall. Our guests therefore have excellent access to one of the best bicycle paths in all of Dovrefjell, and can choose to travel towards Dombås, past the Fokstumyra wetlands, or further into the valley towards Hjerkinn Fjellstue. The National Park Road isn’t a particularly demanding route, and will therefore be perfect for a family with children, or a party that wants a trip with light and balanced intensity. For the more experienced cyclist who wants a longer trip, there are several alternatives for extending the trip further. For example, you can travel onwards from Hjerkinn down to Folldal, and even further.

Along the route there are many good opportunities to eat lunch in the open nature. For the ones who prefer to be served, there are good options on either end of the bicycle path. Electrical bicycles are allowed on the National Park Road.

The Vålåsjøhø- and Snøheim Roads

These roads are located within Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, and are therefore only available for bicycling between 1. June to 15. July. Despite this, these routes are well worth experiencing, as they will show you the mountain landscape at its best. It won’t be just the cycling that takes your breath away! Both routes consist of gravel paths that are well-suited for cycling. We recommend using the parking facilities at Hjerkinn.

The Vålåsjøhø road provides a bit of intensity, as the route has good elevation. In return, you will get great views to the south west towards Fokstumyra wetlands and beyond. If you’re lucky, you may even get to see some musk oxen down in the valley to the north. The road ends at Grisungvatnet, a pond situated in the vale between the peaks.

The Snøheim road is an access road to Snøheim Tourist Cabin, which is situated close to Snøhetta mountain. This is a trip we recommend you take at an easy pace, to make time for taking in the beautiful surroundings - the vast tundra, the distant mountain peaks and the diverse wildlife. The road takes you through the gentle tundra terrain in the national park, all the way to Snøheim.

Åmotsdalen - Dindal cabin

If you’d like a bicycle trip with a bit more terrain, the route from Åmotsdalen to the Dindal cabin should be to your liking. The route follows a road into Åmotsdalen for a while, then follows the trail up into the mountain to the north, and from there, down to Dindal cabin. A trip that undoubtedly will get the blood pumping and provide some challenge to the adventurous cyclist. If you’re hungry for more routes like this, or downhill cycling, there are several options of such variety in the Oppdal area.

Since this route lies a fair distance from Dovregubbens Hall, you will need a car. Follow E6 towards Oppdal, and take the exit towards Åmotsdalen near Engan. You will find parking amenities here as well.
